L-Shaped Sofas in Kenya: How to Choose the Right L-Seat
A practical guide to buying an L-shaped sofa (L-seat) in Kenya: measuring your room, left or right facing, sizes, fabrics and what to ask before you pay.
An L-shaped sofa — most Kenyans just call it an L-seat — is the most popular living-room piece we make. It seats more people than a standard sofa set, fits neatly into a corner and makes even a small sitting room feel organised. But an L-seat is also a big purchase, and the most common problems we see come from choosing the wrong size or the wrong side. This guide walks you through the decisions in order.
1. Measure your room first (not the sofa)
Before you look at designs, measure:
- Both walls where the sofa will sit, from the corner outwards.
- The walkway you need to keep free. Leave about 75–90 cm for people to walk past comfortably.
- Doors, windows and sockets along those walls, so the sofa doesn’t block them.
- The way in — the main door, corridor, stairs or lift. Measure the narrowest point.
Write the numbers down and send them to us with a photo of the room. It takes two minutes and saves a lot of stress on delivery day.
2. Left-facing or right-facing?
This is the question that catches most buyers out. Stand facing the sofa (as if you’re looking at it from the middle of the room). If the long “chaise” part is on your left, it’s left-facing; if it’s on your right, it’s right-facing.
The easiest way to decide is to look at your corner: the long side of the L usually goes along the longer wall, and the short side should not block the path to the door or the TV.
3. Choose a size that fits the way you live
L-seats are usually described by how many people they seat. As a rough guide:

4. Getting it through the door
Large L-seats are normally made in two or more sections that join together, which makes delivery up narrow stairs or into a lift much easier. If your entrance is tight, tell us before we start making it so we can plan the sections.
5. Pick the fabric for your home, not just the photo
- Velvet looks rich and feels soft; it shows marks when brushed the wrong way but can be refreshed easily.
- Corduroy is soft, ribbed and very forgiving with children and pets.
- Plain woven fabrics are practical all-rounders and easy to clean.
- Leather-look finishes wipe clean quickly but can feel warm in hot weather.
In Nairobi’s dust and sun, mid-tones — greys, taupes, olive, navy and warm browns — stay looking fresh longer than pure white or very dark black.
6. Comfort: what to ask about
Comfort comes down to the seat depth, the cushion firmness and the frame. When you message us, ask about:
- The seat depth (deeper seats are great for lounging; shallower seats suit upright sitting).
- The cushion foam and how firm it is.
- The frame and how the sections join.

7. Before you pay
A good furniture seller will confirm, in writing on WhatsApp:
- The design, the facing side (left or right), size, fabric and colour
- The total price and the delivery fee to your area
